NeuroMovement® for Adults in Santa Rosa, Ca

You’ve tried everything you can think of to heal your chronic physical pain and discomfort, but nothing’s working.

Maybe you regularly exercise, lift weights, and do your 10,000 steps. Perhaps you do yoga and pilates. You see a naturopath and take supplements and herbs. You have tried chiropractic, osteopathy, acupuncture, massage and even physical therapy. You have been committed to your healing and have done a lot.

But you’re still feeling…

Frustrated by chronic achy painful joints, lower back, neck or hip pain.

Disappointed by your increasingly lost mobility.

Overwhelmed by how slow your body is recovering after surgery.

NeuroMovement® can help you transform your movement and quality of life.

NeuroMovement® is a gentle, dynamic learning-based method consisting of hundreds of innovative movement lessons that are rooted in the scientific principles of brain plasticity.

  • Anat Baniel and Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais are regarded as two of the most influential and innovative pioneers in the field of NeuroMovement® education.

In the 1940s Dr. Feldenkrais developed a brilliant sensory-motor approach to re-educate the nervous system and for developing clearer self awareness. His work is known as The Feldenkrais Method.

His protege and colleague, and my teacher, Anat Baniel, later expanded upon his work re-naming her approach, The Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement®.

Anat discovered how to apply the cutting-edge scientific brain research to movement and other practical applications, with the goal of transforming our brains and human functioning.

She identified 9 key elements that the brain requires in order to wake-up, upgrade itself and access more of our potential. She named these elements The 9 Essentials of NeuroMovement®.

    1) Moving with Attention -bring attention to what you feel as you move

    2) Slow -slow way down to learn new skills and overcome limitations

    3) Variation - introduce variations into everything you do

    4) Subtlety - reduce the force in which you move, think, and act

    5) Enthusiasm - appreciating and taking delight grooves in the new learning

    6) Flexible Goals - embrace unexpected steps and mistakes along the way

    7) The Learning Switch - expect that you will think, do, or learn something new in each situation

    8) Imagination & Dreams - both of these elevate you to new heights, transcending your limitations

    9) Awareness - When you are aware, you are fully alive and present

  • NeuroMovement® is a somatic modality that uses Movement and Awareness as the main tools for communicating with the brain.

The profound beauty of the human nervous system is that positive brain change can occur at any age with the principles of brain plasticity.

We have the innate ability to create new neural networks and patterns that are optimal for our functioning when given the right learning conditions.

These new upgraded neural pathways affect changes in our movement, thinking, feeling, sensing and perceiving.

  • At your first session we will discuss your goals for our work together. We will also go over paperwork that you have already filled out.

I will inquire into the types of exercises and activities that you enjoy so that I can design the most optimal movement learning experience for you and your needs.

I will invite you to lie on a low padded table fully clothed in the most comfortable position for you supported with pillows, cushions and bolsters.

At times the sessions may include seated or standing positions as well.

Through respectful gentle touch, intuitive listening and empathic inquiry in a calm relaxed environment I will guide you through a hands-on kinesthetic process.

During this kinesthetic dialogue we will discover how you are organizing your body, your habitual movement patterns that might be contributing to your pain or discomfort.

I will hint to your nervous system through subtle touch, movement and verbal cues how to move in more expanded full-body functional motor patterns.

Your feelings of comfort and safety are the primary considerations throughout the entire session - as it is only under these conditions that the nervous system can truly learn and heal.

  • This type of movement exploration is designed to make you more aware of your habitual neuromuscular patterns and rigidities that are contributing to your pain, discomfort or difficulties.

Through this process you will discover alternative options, new ways of breathing and moving that are more functional, pain-free, expansive and pleasurable.

This hands-on movement modality is both creative and dynamic affecting people on a number of levels.

My clients find that not only does their chronic pain go away - they discover that with their newfound freedom and ease of movement they start to experience greater vitality and joy and more possibilities for their life open up as a result.

At the end of the day, I want you to know:

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, when given the right support and learning process, positive brain change can occur -leading you to greater functioning and pain-free pleasurable movement.

FAQs

  • Generally I recommend one session per week for 4-16 weeks to heal injuries and chronic issues.

Depending on your situation, your current level of functioning and activity, the duration and chronic nature of your pain -are all contributing factors in your healing process.

Even after just one session people feel pleasurable changes, such as a calmer body and mind as well as a reduction in chronic muscular contractions contributing to their pain.

At the end of that first session I will have a better idea of how your unique system responds to the work, and will map out a plan for you to reach your intended goals.

  • For your session please wear socks and comfortable clothing that will lend itself to movement.

After the session I suggest limiting your exercise and activities for the rest of the day. Even though the sessions are extremely gentle the movement makes profound changes in the brain which can take time for your system to integrate.

People’s reactions vary after the sessions - some people feel calm but energized. Others can feel extremely altered and might need a more restful quiet time to integrate the changes.

  • I charge $175 for a 60-minute session. I accept cash, check, credit card, Paypal, Venmo, or Zelle.

Please note that I am unable to assign treatment codes, submit insurance claims, submit records or notes, or work directly with health insurance providers for NeuroMovement® sessions. NeuroMovement® is considered a learning-based approach, and not a medical modality in the traditional sense.

If requested I can provide you with a receipt indicating the number of sessions, the amount paid, and the description of services provided as “Neuromuscular Reeducation” for your own records or for you to submit for your Company’s Wellness Program/Insurance if you so choose.
